April 23 -- Annual Society Meeting followed by the Program below

Bea Mitchell, will be speaking on Breast Cancer Quilt (Pink Ribbon)

On Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2 PM, the Portage County Historical Society will present a program by Beatrice Mitchell on her "YES SIR" quilt # 2 by using fabric and thread to raise awareness of breast cancer between the sexes. The quilt has over 100 hand written signatures. Over 35 of the signatures are from the Portage County area, others are from other parts of the country.

The quilt has been on display at Kent State University, the Cleveland Clinic and many other organizations. Beatrice donated the quilt to the Portage County Historical Society and it will be on display until the end of June 2016.

The Program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served after the program. For more information call the society office. (330) 296-3523.

November 28 -- (2pm) Judith Bosau-Allen will give a presentation entitled “Words Most Noted: Reactions to and Legacy of the Gettysburg Address." She has been a resident of Portage County for 55 years and graduated from Crestwood High School in 1968. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from Kent State University in 1993; a Master’s in History from the University of Akron in 1995; and is has worked on her doctorate at the University of Akron. 
            She has taught history courses at UA, KSU and Mount Union College. She currently resides in Deerfield, Ohio. Ms. Allen currently is a member of Portage Community Chapel where she teaches an adultSunday class.

The Museum, Homes, Campbell Land Office, Ford Seed Building and Clock Tower are open for tours during
regular hours. Special group tours can be made by appointment. School classes, scout troops, and clubs are welcome. We offer Teas for Brownie troops and Girl Scouts and other organizations at the Strickland and Carter Homes. The Strickland House can be rented for Baby Showers, Small Weddings, Club Meetings, etc.
